What is Hyperpigmentation?
The human body produces a chemical called melanin as an important part of its normal daily process. If the body begins to produce too much melanin (which is something that can happen for a host of different reasons), hyperpigmentation can then occur. Hyperpigmentation most commonly takes the form of things like age spots, freckles, liver spots and more – all of which are characterized by certain darker areas of the skin and can affect all areas of the body. The excess melanin has formed in these particular areas and takes the appearance of these deposits. All areas of the body can show signs of hyperpigmentation.
How to Treat Hyperpigmentation
This light-based treatment targets different chromophores in the skin. Chromophores selectively absorb the laser energy as heat and yield the desired response.
These optimal wavelengths of light clear pigmented lesions by targeting melanin. The damaged pigmented lesions are then cleared by the body. In just a few short days they slough off, removing the appearance of the lesion from the skin.
